Author's "interview" with his uncle, Mr. Hein ten Berge (1906-1994), relating his life and career as a layman-teacher at the dutch Jesuit College at Moentilan, Java, incl. extensive notes on Jesuit missionary labour and education in colonial Indonesia and his 3-year stay as a P.O.W. in a Japanese camp on Haruku (Moluccas). Bergum, Gebrs. van der Meulen, [circa] 1906 Original captioned monochrome picture postcard (140x90mm). Circulated and postmarked with stamp preserved 15 April 1915.
Circulated dutch picturepostcard illustrating a Indonesian Chinese Family Altar, exhibited in the Bergum [also Burgum] indonesian collection, Friesland Province, the Netherlands. Very fine copy. Curious. The "Indonesian Art Museum" of Bergum Village, Friesland province, was formed and founded by the indonesian art collector and schoolmaster A. Tjibbes van der Meulen, 1862-1934. Van der Meulen worked in the Dutch East Indies and started to collecct indonesian arts, and developed to a skilled art connaisseur, forming the biggest private collection at the time. The Museum at Bergum was opened on 28 May 1906. Van der Meulen decided to sell the whole collection in 1910 to a local notary public Nanne Ottema, keen to keep the collection in Friesland Province.

A collection of contributions by dutch architects, being analytical architectural descriptions to dutch colonial indonesian Pavillions at the Amsterdam International Colonial- and Export exhibition 1883. Plates feature pavillions in traditional indonesian architecture, including interior decorations in the same style and motifs. Good copy. Rare. (extremities to binding a bit shaved, front inner jount a bit shaky but firmly holding, some versos (blanks) of plates browned, some wear to spine ends).
